Heritage California textile brand CW Stockwell has partnered with famed Los Angeles designer Joe Lucas (of Lucas Studio, Inc) to offer $1000 worth of fabric or wallpaper, with a 1-hour virtual design consultation with Lucas where he will tell you not only what to buy but how and where to use it!
Joe Lucas started the high-end residential interior design firm Lucas Studio, Inc. with his then business partner Parrish Chilcoat in 2005. In 2008 they added Harbinger, a multiline design showroom to the growing business.
Lucas Studio, Inc. & Harbinger have been featured in House Beautiful, Traditional Home, Elle Décor, Veranda, Architectural Digest, Luxe Magazine, Domino, the LA Times, Angeleno, Angeleno Interiors, Wired, and Design NJ.
In 1905 Clifton W. Stockwell – a pharmacist from Armstrong, Iowa – moved to Los Angeles and started a wallpaper business there by importing hand-printed, hand-blocked wallpapers from Europe and Asia. He was eventually joined in the business by his daughter Lucile and her husband Remy Chatain, Sr.
Lucile and her son Remy L Chatain, Jr. both graduated from New York’s Parsons School of Design where they both studied interior design and architecture, and both also spent time overseas gathering further inspiration.
CW Stockwell’s business grew rapidly when the two Parsons alumni began to develop proprietary and innovative designs alongside a talented cadre of illustrators, textile designers and recent art school graduates. The business grew exponentially, and the Chatains opened showrooms across the United States: New York, San Francisco, Chicago, Los Angeles. While at CW Stockwell we are most currently known for Martinique®, their iconic banana leaf design, for the better part of the 20th century the brand was known for quite an extensive collection of dynamic, colorful, often insouciant patterns within fabric and wallcoverings.
The three generations of Stockwells and Chatains shared a desire for extremely high product quality, meticulous craftsmanship and unparalleled color consistency. For more than one hundred years, the collections have been produced by their trusted makers in the same time-honored manner: by hand, in Los Angeles, California.
The values of quality and craft; the spirit of exuberant, not-so-serious design; and the emphasis long placed on innovation are all held dear by us as we re-imagine this brand as it heads into its fourth generation.
