About Monte Lipman:
Monte Lipman along with his younger brother Avery, are the original co-founders of Republic Records. What began as a small independent venture, has grown into a major label powerhouse. According to Nielsen’s Soundcan, Republic currently holds the title of #1 record company in the United States based on overall market share. His emphasis on identifying, signing, and breaking new artists has ushered in many of today’s biggest superstars.
Guided by Monte’s vision during this historic period, international Grande has had seen both her album releases debut at #1 less than twelve months apart and won ‘Best New Artist’ at the 2013 American Music Awards. Lorde (Lava) set multiple milestones with her Grammy Award-winning single "Royals", and Enrique Iglesias enjoyed the biggest hit of his career with the worldwide #1 smash "Bailando". Through the label’s strategic alliance with Big Machine Label Group, Monte helped orchestrate the launch of Taylor Swift’s landmark 2014 pop campaign, augmenting her rise to becoming the biggest artist in music. Other critically acclaimed recent releases include #1 debuts from Pearl Jam (Monkeywrench), The Weeknd (XO), Jack Johnson (Brushfire), Drake (Young Money/Cash Money), Black Sabbath, and more.
Founded in 1995, Republic started as a burgeoning independent record label. In 2000, Universal Music Group, the world’s largest music company, acquired the small venture and named Monte President of Universal Records (which ultimately was rebranded as Republic Records in 2012). Throughout that era, Monte would go onto introduce U.S. audiences to Grammy Award-winning legend Amy Winehouse as well as Florence + the Machine, reengineered Enrique to superstar status, and initiate a deal with Prince that would yield the legend's first number one album in over twenty years.
Under Monte's direction and foresight, Republic encompasses a myriad of strategic partnerships and groundbreaking alliances. These include Cash Money Records (Lil Wayne, Drake, Nicki Minaj), John Varvatos Records, Lava Records (Jessie J, Lorde), Monkeywrench (Pearl Jam), Casablanca Records (Tïesto, Martin Garrix), XO (The Weeknd), School Boy Records (PSY), among others. The company also maintains its long-standing alliance with country powerhouse Big Machine Label Group which is comprised of Big Machine Records (Rascal Flatts, Taylor Swift, Tim McGraw), Dot Records (Maddie + Tae), and Republic Nashville (The Band Perry, Florida Georgia Line, The Eli Young Band). As the #1 label for soundtracks in the business, Republic's television and film partnerships include NBC's The Voice, AMC's The Walking Dead, Lionsgate's The Hunger Games, Paramount's Anchorman, and most recently Universal Studios highly anticipated 50 Shades of Grey.
About Charlie Walk:
Charlie Walk follows the music first. It's a personal protocol that the Republic Records Executive Vice President has subscribed to since his childhood growing up in the suburbs of Boston, MA. At seven-years-old, he'd spend hours in his room listening to a vintage AM transistor radio tuned to the city's famed WRKO 680 AM. It was during that time he became fascinated with pop music.
Walk previously enjoyed a legendary 15-year stint at Columbia. From getting behind Mariah Carey's debut single "Vision of Love" to working on the rebirth of Aerosmith with "I Don't Want to Miss A Thing" on the Armageddon soundtrack, fueling the meteoric rise of The Fugees, and ushering Will Smith into the forefront of pop radio from rap, he forged ahead with a combination of prescient wisdom, sharp business acumen, and a willingness to take risks. He personally pushed for John Mayer to release "Daughters" as a single, and the song went on to win the 2005 Grammy Award for "Song of the Year" and "Best Male Pop Vocal Performance". During the acceptance speech, Mayer personally thanked Walk.
Other artists he directly worked with included Beyoncé, Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen, Destiny's Child, John Legend, Lauryn Hill, Maxwell, and Wyclef Jean. Eventually he was named head of the Columbia Records promotion division as Executive Vice President, Creative Marketing and Promotion.
In 2013, Walk returned to the business he started in when Republic Records sought him out as Executive Vice President. As soon as he joined the team, he proved integral to identifying a smash for Ariana Grande in the form of "The Way" featuring Mac Miller from her #1 Billboard Top 200 debut, Yours Truly. He remained crucial to the campaign for Lorde's Pure Heroine, envisioning and enacting forward-thinking marketing initiatives to turn her into a Grammy Award-winning platinum sensation. Meanwhile, he shepherded a groundbreaking joint venture with fashion mogul John Varvatos—John Varvatos Records.
