Overtime Bidding

Why did the auction closing time extend by 10 minutes after I placed my bid? This is called "Popcorn" Bidding: Bids placed within 10 minutes prior to a lot's scheduled closing time will extend the closing time on that lot an additional 10 minutes. This gives all bidders an opportunity to place a competing bid. All lots will close when there have been no bids placed within the last remaining 10 minutes.

Max Bid

Your Max Bid is the most you are willing to pay for an auction item. Consider placing a Max Bid if you don’t have time to monitor an auction. Your Max Bid won't be displayed to other bidders, but will be displayed as the current bid based on the bidding increment. You won’t pay the Max Bid amount unless another bid bumps you up to the next increment.

Watching Items

You can monitor items you're interested in without placing a bid by selecting Watch This Item after you've logged into your account. Now you can keep track of the closing date, next minimum bid and number of bids from your Account page. We’ll email you a reminder to bid the morning items you are watching close. You can remove an item from your watch list from your Account page or by clicking the Watch button again.

Closing Time

This is the time the auction will end, but "Popcorn Bidding" could add 10 minutes to the closing time. If a bid is placed within 10 minutes of the closing time, the auction will extend by 10 minutes. This allows competing bidders a chance to stay in the race.

Designed by E. Stewart Williams in 1947 for Frank Sinatra and his first wife, Nancy Barbato, The Twin Palms Estate is a spectacular example of mid-century architecture in the heart of Palm Springs. This estate boasts both mid-century style luxury and historical significance with modern amenities. This Palm Springs architectural gem features exquisite period furnishings and infamous piano-shaped swimming pool. Williams also has many other significant projects in the Palm Springs area.

The legendary residence was host to some of the valley’s most glamorous parties with Hollywood’s brightest stars of the day. Frank Sinatra often hoisted his Jack Daniels emblem flag on the flag pole once positioned between the twin palms, which indicated an invite to his Movie Colony neighborhood cronies that revelry and cocktails were in order. The home was also witness to some of Sinatra’s most memorable bouts. One of the most outrageous was when Frank threw then-wife Ava Gardner’s possessions onto the driveway after she appeared at the house in an attempt to catch him with Lana Turner. You can still see the chip in the sink where Frank threw a bottle in a rage. The residence has been completely restored with vintage designer furnishings throughout the residence and includes the original sound and recording system installed by Valentino Electronics in Hollywood. The kitchen is the most recent restoration and sponsored by Viking with St. Charles modern cabinetry resembling the origin kitchen design. The powder room is sponsored by Kohler.

The home today is perfect for vacationing or special events. The residence includes a master suite, guest suite, guest bedroom, and an exterior entrance guest room. Each bedroom has an ensuite bathroom with an additional powder room in the great room. The kitchen is updated with today modern appliances and perfect for creating culinary art and entertaining. The estate is also wired with the latest technology, including wireless internet and iPod connectivity with surround sound. Guests can enjoy listening to nostalgic Sinatra tunes that are available for enjoyment. While the home does include the original recording equipment, today the cabinet is also used to showcase a flat screen television. Memorabilia can be seen throughout the home in this preserve architectural residence that was once Frank Sinatra’s desert retreat from Hollywood.
