The Alliance of Artists Communities is the only national organization connecting, supporting and advocating for the field of artists' communities - places that provide time and space for artists to create new work.

While many institutions exhibit art and present literature and performances, the Alliance of Artists Communities offers ways to support individual artists while they are creating the masterpieces of tomorrow. Artists' communities fill this critical need. They go by many different names (artists' community, colony, retreat, or residency) and serve artists of all disciplines (visual arts, performing arts, music and composition, choreography and dance, creative and scholarly writing, poetry, filmmaking and digital media), but collectively they provide over $36 million each year in direct support to more than 12,000 artists.

The Alliance of Artists Communities believes that creativity must be nurtured, supported, and catalyzed for the continuation and betterment of our society, now and for the future.

The Alliance of Artists Communities provides:
  • professional development consultations, workshops, and training seminars
  • research relevant to the field-conducted and published in-house
  • funding partnerships-bringing new financial resources to the field
The Alliance of Artists Communities connects:
  • our members to each other through networking opportunities at conferences and regional meetings
  • artists, students, and others to information on artists' communities through the publication of our directory, website, and newsletters
  • the field to other professionals in the arts, sciences and beyond through speaking engagements and outreach
Artists' communities are a necessary piece of the arts ecology, and the Alliance of Artists Communities exists to support and further the field's work. Collectors and art enthusiasts around the globe can bid at charitybuzz in our third annual AAC Auction. We are assembling a wonderful array of unique experiential items this year, including trips to the south of France and the sun-splashed Greek island of Skopelos.
