Most people know Robby Krieger as the former guitarist and songwriter of the legendary band The Doors. He wrote and co-wrote many of the band’s most iconic songs, including “Break on Through”, “Love Me Two Times”, “Touch Me”, “Love Her Madly” “Roadhouse Blues” “Spanish Caravan”, and the classic, seven minute song that launched the band’s career instantly by skyrocketing to the #1 position in the 1967 Billboard charts – “Light My Fire.”
Robby Krieger is also a well-established artist. His “Light My Fire” is an appreciation of life, music and nature’s elements as portrayed by the painting’s bright fiery colors and upbeat visual style. The original painting is proudly displayed in his recording studio.
For the first time ever, the painting is available to the public as a limited edition, giclee print on canvas with an image size of 36” x 24”. It comes complete with custom framing and certificate of authenticity, as well as a personal note to the winning bidder.
Krieger, one of the most influential and creative forces in Rock n Roll history, has been a philanthropist since his days with The Doors. Proceeds from sales of his artwork go to his foundation “The Music Path”, which is committed to bringing music back to schools.
Dr. Michael Misialek, a pathologist from Newton, MA, has purchased one of these pieces and generously donated it to the College of American Pathologists (CAP) Foundation. Dr. Misialek sat down with Robby in his studio to discuss the inspiration for the song “Light My Fire”, the lasting impact of The Doors and the charitable work of the CAPF. The full video is available here as well as a 3 minute version here.
The CAP Foundation’s flagship program, See, Test & Treat®, supports pathologist led free cervical and breast cancer screening for medically underserved women throughout the US. This is all accomplished in a single visit. In a dignified and culturally sensitive manner, women are connected with providers and necessary social services. Often, many have not been to a doctor in years, sometimes decades. The experience is transformative, and even life-saving, for many women. Currently the need for establishing more programs far outweighs available resources.
All proceeds from the auction will go towards setting up new cancer screening opportunities throughout the country. More information on the CAP Foundation can found here.
This is an amazing opportunity to own a beautiful piece of art, a part of The Doors legacy and support a very worthy cause of fighting cancer through early detection, prevention and treatment.
