Description
In honor of Valentine's Day 2010, George Rodrigue has created this one-of-a-kind artwork exclusively for charitbuzz to raise funds and awareness for his foundation, the George Rodrigue Foundation of the Arts. "Love Me Forever" is an original silkscreen print from 2001. In January 2010, Rodrigue added hand embellishments using gold and silver paint pens, as well as a pencil sketch, to create this original mixed media piece. "Love Me Forever" measures 20 X 27 and it will be mounted and shipped flat.
The George Rodrigue Foundation of the Arts (GRFA) advocates the importance of the visual arts in the development of our youth. GRFA encourages the use of art within all curriculums and supports a variety of art educational programs.
George Rodrigue (b. 1944) was born and raised in New Iberia, Louisiana, the heart of Cajun country. Even today his work remains rooted in the familiar milieu of home. Bed-ridden with polio, young Rodrigue discovered his love of art at age eight, when his mother gave him his first paint by number set to relieve his boredom that summer.
Later Rodrigue studied art at the University of Southwest Louisiana in Lafayette, followed by the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles, where the graduate school’s curriculum provided him a nuts-and-bolts foundation in drawing and painting.
He then returned to Louisiana and developed his unique style, using the area’s visual symbols not only to capture the essence of his personal world, but also to express his spiritual and cultural ideas as they pertained to Louisiana, to the South, and to America. Using the oak tree as his subject in hundreds of paintings in the early 1970s, Rodrigue eventually expanded his oeuvre to include the Cajun people and traditions, as well as his interpretations of myths such as Jolie Blonde and Evangeline. It was one of these myths, the loup-garou, which inspired Rodrigue’s most famous series, the Blue Dog.
As a boy, Rodrigue knew of a werewolf or ghost dog that lurked in sugar cane fields, threatening to haunt bad children. The legend said nothing about the loup-garou’s color, but Rodrigue thought the night sky would cast a blue-grey shade on its fur. Over time the image on his canvas became friendlier, with a brighter hue and increasingly abstract settings. No longer the loup-garou, the Blue Dog, as well as other series such as Bodies, Hurricanes, and Reflections continue to challenge Rodrigue artistically.

Bids are a binding contract. If you have any questions on any terms and
conditions, we encourage you to email

Max bidding allows you to bid the maximum amount you wish to bid for an auction lot.
Your maximum bid won't be displayed to other bidders, but will be displayed as the
current bid based on the bidding increment. The following example illustrates max
bidding:
- Auction Lot 1000 has a current bid of $0. The minimum bid is $250.
- Juan places and confirms a maximum bid of $500. Juan's bid is displayed as $250.
- Sally places a bid of $300 and is notified that the bid was not accepted because
it did not exceed the maximum bid.
- Juan's next bid is automatically increased to the next bidding increment of $350.
- If no other bids are placed, Juan is the winner at $350.
- If Juan's $500 max bid is overtaken by another bidder, he will receive an outbid
notice.

In addition to an online auction, charities frequently conduct a live gala and feature
a live auction at the event. For the auction lots that are included in the online auction
and the live auction, we note them with "liveBID" in the lot description, and we close
the online bidding the day of the live auction. We contact the highest bidder on those
liveBID lots by phone to see if they want us to continue bidding on their behalf at the
live auction. We can bid for you one of two ways:
- You can fill out your maximum bid online and we will bid UP TO this amount for you
during the live auction. We will stop bidding for you when your maximum bid is
reached.
- You can give us your contact phone number for the live event and one of our
personable charitybuzz staff will stay on the phone with you while the bidding takes
place. You must be registered of course to be part of liveBID. We will contact you if
you are the winning bidder immediately after the auction. Please email
info@charitybuzz.com with any questions.
ReserveBID is a way for donors/charities to ensure that items do not sell below their
value. Some items will start at a lower opening bid price to encourage bidding; however
items that display "ReserveBID not met" below the current bid are not obligated to be
sold to the highest bidder. Bidding must surpass the set reserve price in order to sell;
therefore once "ReserveBID not met" disappears, the item is valid for sale at the current
bid posted. Reserve prices are confidential and will not be revealed to bidders.
We value your confidentiality and security. In order to bid on lots over $5,000.00
your designated credit card will be validated for $5,000.00. No payments will be deducted
from your account for this credit card verification.
