CHILDREN MENDING HEARTS is a global arts exchange between at-risk children in America and children living in conflict zones that educates, empowers and encourages children and gives them a voice, inspiring them to a sense of empathy and desire for peace. The goal is to approach emotional and intellectual poverty, and conflict resolution, in a new way to change the lives of homeless and at-risk children in America and abroad. The only thing that separates children here and abroad is geography and circumstance. They are both refugees in their own societies.
Working with a team of arts and cultural specialists who conduct workshops in the arts including painting, photography, music, dance and drama, these kids experience the joy of childhood. Children Mending Hearts’ programs give children the power to find and use their voices through creative expression, helping expand the individual potential of these young people by strengthening their minds through creative stimulation and helping them grow into better global citizens.
PLEASE MR. PRESIDENT… is a series of arts exchange programs designed to give homeless children and those less fortunate a voice, as kids in America and those in armed conflict zones around the world write letters and paint pictures for a global children’s book to the President.
Children Mending Hearts conducts these arts workshops in America with local homeless and at-risk children’s organizations, and internationally with NGO’s supporting children in conflict zones. Recent workshops have been conducted in Los Angeles, New York City and in the DR Congo. The cities of Las Vegas, Chicago, San Francisco, Detroit & Flint, MI, Washington, DC & Baltimore, MD and New Orleans are among those slated for the
Please Mr. President… program.
The
Please Mr. President program team works with city officials to empower local organizations that specialize in aid to at-risk and homeless children throughout the country. Children Mending Hearts learns what their partner organizations in each city need, and then develops
Take Action points for the adult and teen volunteer pools at each workshop to execute as part of a long-term outreach for these groups working in the trenches with disadvantaged children and their families. Children Mending Hearts arts workshops have been conducted with almost 7,500 children in the U.S. and Africa.
