This intimate online conversation offers a rare opportunity to engage with the artist behind Songs My Brothers Taught Me, The Rider, Eternals, and Nomadland, the latter earning three Academy Awards.
Zhao’s recent work includes directing, co-writing, and co-editing Hamnet. She also continues to expand her creative influence through her production ventures, Book of Shadows, launched in 2023, and Kodansha Studios, launched in 2025. Since the escalation of the Russia–Ukraine war in 2022, the organization has rescued and treated thousands of animals, including dogs, cats, and other species, often operating in dangerous frontline conditions to save animals left behind during evacuations.
