Glenmorangie Vintage 1963 is the World’s first wood finished Single Malt Scotch Whisky.
This historic whisky was first distilled in 1963 and extra-matured in Spanish Oloroso Sherry casks for almost two years, before being bottled and released in 1987.
Fifty bottles were recently discovered in a hidden corner of one of Glenmorangie’s expansive Highland warehouses and re-released in a commemorative bottle fitting of its iconic 1960s heritage.
A blast from the sophisticated past, the new packaging emanates a universally compelling “time capsule” mystique. Each of the bottles is engraved with a unique number and is presented in a metal “time capsule”-style box. The box has a polished oak wood interior, and contains a luxurious booklet customized with a hand signed note of authenticity from legendary master distiller, Dr. Bill Lumsden. The labels, collar and cork are made of the purest .925 solid silver.
Dr Bill Lumsden said: “Glenmorangie 1963 is a unique opportunity for aficionados to sample a truly ground-breaking single malt whisky. It marked the first venture into extra-maturation, so it’s a real slice of history for collectors. This is a phenomenal whisky capable of transporting those lucky enough to sample it back in time to the heady days of 1963.” Lumsden added: “The age of the spirit remains the same as its first release and the rich and sumptuous flavors of this exceptional whisky are perfectly intact.”
Glenmorangie will donate proceeds of this auction to benefit American Forests in their efforts to preserve national trees like those used for casks to extra mature Glenmorangie’s Unnecessarily Well Made whisky.
Glenmorangie originates in the Scottish Highlands where, at the Glenmorangie Distillery, it is distilled in the tallest malt whisky stills in Scotland, expertly matured in the finest oak casks, and perfected by the 16 Men of Tain. The distillery was founded in 1843 and is renowned as a pioneer in the whisky industry, uniting tradition with innovation. In addition, over the last five years Glenmorangie has won more “Gold Best in Class” medals than any other single malt from the International Wine and Spirits Competition”
