Habitat for Humanity’s national organization in the Philippines began distributing emergency shelter kits to families affected by Typhoon Haiyan just days after disaster struck. The organization is currently distributing shelter repair kits to support families’ own recovery efforts. In total, Habitat has targeted to distribute 30,000 shelter repair kits in typhoon-hit areas. To date the organization has supported more than 10,000 families (more than 50,000 people) with a mix of emergency shelter kits and shelter repair kits. Habitat for Humanity’s disaster response efforts assist families by helping them rebuild their lives and gain access to decent shelter. Habitat staff on the ground are coordinating with government agencies and other partners on the disaster response operations.
