Aspiring writers this is your chance to meet one-on-one with Emmy nominated writers, Alex Fox and Rachel Lewis.
They will walk you through the ins and outs of breaking into writing for television. Bring your questions! They will help guide you in any way they can!
Alex Fox and Rachel Lewis met in Chicago while studying and performing improv and sketch comedy at the world-renowned Second City, iO, and Annoyance Theaters. It was kismet at first laugh. Nicknaming each other Jon (Alex) and Eddie (Rachel) after their entertaining fathers, Alex and Rachel’s friendship and comedic partnership grew through their complementary humorous stylings and love of ethnic food. After leaving Chicago, Alex and Rachel made their way west and began performing improv and sketch comedy together as, The Jon and Eddie Show (named one of the “Top Five Improv Groups” in the nation by The Friars Club of New York, MSN.com's Top 100 Things to See in LA, and some of BUST Magazine's Funniest Ladies in LA). Alex and Rachel then branched out to write and produce online content, selling an original series, THE CRAFT STORE, to Fremantle Media.
From there, A&R expanded into writing for television, landing their first staff writing job at PBS on Odd Squad, a live action series about two kid investigators saving the day through math…oh, and it's funny. Working on Odd Squad, Alex and Rachel garnered their first Emmy nomination for Outstanding Writing for a Children’s Series. Since then A&R have written for The Stinky & Dirty Show and Danger & Eggs on Amazon, Vampirina at Disney Jr. and currently write for BIZAARDVARK on The Disney Channel. The duo has also sold two original shows to Nickelodeon – making one into a pilot. A&R recently teamed up with Nerdist Industries to shoot their widely received sketch comedy show for kids…with puppets, Puppet Town as a live special (to be released on the Nerdist streaming service, ALPHA very soon). Alex and Rachel also continue to perform improv and sketch comedy as The Jon and Eddie Show, and schedule all their writing meetings around food.
