Daphne Rubin-Vega is a two-time Tony Award and Independent Spirit Award-nominated powerhouse stage, film, and television actress and singer whose career has spanned three decades. Daphne can next be seen in Warner Brothers’ highly anticipated movie, In The Heights, directed by Jon M. Chu, the film adaptation of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s acclaimed musical premiering. She will star as “Daniela” alongside Anthony Ramos, Stephanie Beatriz, Marc Anthony, and Dascha Polanco. Daphne can currently be seen in the new CW Riverdale spin-off Katy Keene alongside Lucy Hale.
A staple of the New York theatre community, Daphne rose to prominence when she starred in the original Broadway cast of Rent. Her striking portrayal of “Mimi Marquez” garnered her a Tony Award nomination for Best Actress in a Musical and widespread critical acclaim. Daphne’s other Broadway credits include Anna in the Tropics, for which she earned her second Tony Award nomination for Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Play, The Rocky Horror Show, Les Misérables, and A Streetcar Named Desire. Daphne’s Off-Broadway credits include Jack Goes Boating and Miss You Like Hell, for which she was nominated for a Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Actress in a Musical. Daphne is also a gifted television and film actress, having received a 2011 Independent Spirit Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress for the film version of Jack Goes Boating. She also had memorable film roles in Sex and the City, Flawless and Wild Things, which earned her a Blockbuster Award for Favorite Supporting Actress/Suspense.
Daphne previously recurred as Agnes, Anjelica Huston’s Bombshell publicist on the television series SMASH, as well as on Hustling, and most recently, Tales of the City. A versatile performer across different mediums, Daphne began her musical career as the lead singer for the Latin freestyle group Pajama Party, placing three songs on the Billboard Hot 100 before embarking on a solo singing career with her band DRV. In October 2018, Daphne performed the lead role in the scripted fiction podcast, The Horror of Dolores Roach, which was released by Gimlet Media. The story, co-starring Bobby Cannavale, is an adaptation of Daphne’s stage performance in the one-woman play Empanada Loca, written for her by Aaron Mark. Daphne resides in New York City with her family.
