Bid to win the chance fo you and 5 lucky friends to be given a private behind-the-scenes tour of the The Metropolitan Museum of Art led by Daniel Kershaw, Exhibition Design Manager!

The tour is tailored to your particular areas of interest with galleries and exhibitions under development. Included are viewing of areas not open to the public. Following your tour, entrance to the stunning Dining Room is available (advance notice required).

Upcoming installations include:

  • Golden Kingdoms: Luxury and Legacy in the Ancient Americas (opening Feb. 28th). This landmark exhibition of luxury arts of the Incas, the Aztecs, and their predecessors will trace the emergence and florescence of gold working in the ancient Americas, from its earliest appearance in the Andes to its later developments farther north in Central America and Mexico. This unprecedented exhibition will feature more than 300 works from 53 lenders in 12 countries.
  • Public Parks, Private Gardens: Paris to Provence (opening March 12th) Drawing largely on the encyclopedic holdings of The Met, this exhibition will illustrate the horticultural boom that reshaped much of the French landscape during the 19th century. As shiploads of exotic botanical specimens arrived from abroad and local nurserymen pursued hybridization, the availability and variety of plants and flowers grew exponentially, as did the interest in them. The opening up of formerly royal properties and the transformation of Paris during the Second Empire into a city of tree-lined boulevards and parks introduced public green spaces to be enjoyed as open-air salons, while suburbanites and country-house dwellers were inspired to cultivate their own flower gardens. By 1860, the French journalist Eugène Chapus could write: "One of the pronounced characteristics of our Parisian society is that . . . everyone in the middle class wants to have his little house with trees, roses, and dahlias, his big or little garden, his rural piece of the good life."
  • Painted in Mexico, 1700-1790: Pinxit Mexici (opening April 24th) This will be the first major exhibition devoted to painting in New Spain (Mexico) during the 18th century. It will offer a fresh perspective on a vibrant period, surveying the most important artists and stylistic developments and highlighting the emergence of new pictorial genres and subjects. The exhibition will include 112 works of art, mainly paintings, many of them newly restored and exhibited for the first time.
