Engage in a once in a lifetime opportunity for a personalized virtual presentation and conversation for up to 50 people with Dr. Joe MacInnis. Dr. MacInnis' presentation "From the North Pole to the Titanic to the Mariana Trench: Hot Thoughts about Resilience, Leadership, and Mental Health" will last 45 minutes, with 20 minutes for discussion.
Dr. MacInnis' stories include making the first-ever dives beneath the ice at the geographic North Pole, being trapped in a small research sub on Titanic's pilot house, and working with James Cameron to make a seven-mile science dive into the Mariana Trench. Along the way, we'll gain insight into the components of resilience, leadership, and mental health that will help us navigate the red-zones of the COVID crisis. Before the presentation, the winner and Joe will co-create its contents specifically for your audience. After the presentation, we'll have a conversation about what we've learned.
Joe MacInnis is a medical doctor with a lifelong interest in human performance. After graduating from the University of Toronto Medical School, he received a Link Foundation Fellowship to study diving medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. In 1963, he joined the American Man-In-Sea project supported by the U.S. Navy and the Office of Naval Research. During the next fifty-five years, he participated in or led sixty science and engineering projects under the Atlantic, Pacific, and Arctic Oceans. His pioneering research in human performance in high-risk environments earned him seven honorary degrees and his nation's highest honour, the Order of Canada. Dr. MacInnis has had consulting contracts with James Cameron, Canada's Special Forces, the U.S. Navy, and the Russian Academy of Sciences. He has written articles on human performance for Scientific American, National Geographic, and Wired. Dr. MacInnis is a motivational speaker, whose audiences include Microsoft, IBM, Rolex, Visa, Toyota, and the U.S. Naval Academy. He has produced radio and television documentaries for CBC, CBS, National Geographic, IMAX, and the Discovery Channel. For the past ten years, Dr. MacInnis has been studying leadership in life-threatening environments: the deep ocean, the battlefield, and outer space. He's collaborated with marine scientists, military officers, and shuttle astronauts to better understand how to enhance human performance in these red-zone regions. The COVID crisis and climate change are life-threatening environments. Dr. MacInnis is analyzing the factors, including resilience, empathy, and lateral thinking that will allow us to navigate these red-zone regions. Currently, he mentors students at the University of Toronto and the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation. He is also working with NGOs, including the Cascade Institute, on the climate crisis and collaborating with James Cameron on a new project.
