Meet comedian and author Paula Poundstone on her Starburns Audio podcast, Nobody Listens to Paula Poundstone. And you will have a brief virtual guest spot!
Nobody Listens to Paula Poundstone is a comedy field guide to life, complete with taste tests, cats of the weeks and leading experts in everything from the Constituion and bankruptcy law to how to sing the Star Spangled Banner, surviving a bear attack (although, that guest never made it to the studio…) and Alex Trebek teaching Paula how to be a game show host, Tom Hanks trying to win the 100th caller contest and Tiffany Haddish coaching Paula on how to ace an audition. All put thru the screwball sensibility of Paula Poundstone, while co-host Adam Felber tries, in vain, to keep the show on track.
Known for her smart, observational humor and spontaneous wit, Paula Poundstone has achieved a long list of awards and accolades during her distinguished career. She is the star of several HBO specials including Cats, Cops and Stuff and Goes to Harvard. "Cats" won the Cable ACE for Best Stand-up Comedy Special, marking the first time a woman received the award. Paula was the first woman, in its then 73rd year, to share the dais with the President and host and perform standup at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. In March, TIME Magazine listed Cats, Cops and Stuff as one of The 5 Funniest Stand-Up Specials Ever.
Also an author, Paula’s second book, The Totally Unscientific Study Of The Search For Human Happiness (Algonquin) was one of eight semi-finalists for the Thurber Prize for American Humor, the highest recognition of the art of humor writing in the United States. The book debuted at #1 in Humor in all formats on the Amazon Bestsellers Lists and in the Top 10 in all categories on the New Releases list. The Audio book was one of five finalists for the 2018 Audio Book of the Year Audie Award.
Paula Poundstone is included in innumerable lists, documentaries and literary compendiums noting influential standup comedians of our time. Paula continues as a regular panelist on NPR’s #1 show, Wait Wait…Don’t Tell Me. When the Covid-19 crisis hit, she started making self-described, “goofy little comedy videos” to help people get through. They are available as RX Laughter Videos on her website. She just added a series of Comedy Workout videos to the mix.
