Emily Burnett is the CEO and Creative Director for Burnett New York. Burnett co-founded the eponymous luxury line after having gained international renown and industry recognition during her 10-year tenure at New York’s premier luxury design house, Dennis Basso. As Creative Director for Dennis Basso, Burnett’s signature aesthetic helped the house cement its reputation for feminine sensibility and detailed craftsmanship across evening wear, evening-inspired sportswear, and bridal.
Born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona, Burnett relocated to New York City in 2003 to attend the Parsons School of Design. After graduating with a class that included Michelle and Carly from Cushnie et Ochs (now Cushnie) and Elizabeth Kennedy of Elizabeth Kennedy New York, Burnett launched her design career as a designer at Ralph Lauren Black label working under Whitney Fairchild. Amidst the economic crash of 2008, Burnett found herself landing a position at Dennis Basso and thriving despite minimal support and a small team. By age 23, she became the Creative Director for the Dennis Basso brand as well as the parent company Stallion Inc. With her debut collection for the Dennis Basso Spring 2010 runway, Burnett catalyzed a powerful shift in the brand’s image by showcasing an ultra-feminine, unabashedly luxe line up of cocktail and evening dresses. This quickly became her signature touch for the label and along with the hype generated, Burnett quickly became a favorite with top stylists Patti Wilson, Lori Goldstein, Kate Young, Anya Zirourova, and Gillian Wilkins, as well as with supermodels Naomi Campbell, Coco Rocha, Chanel Iman, Hilary Rhoda, and Rianne Ten Haken. In June 2018, Burnett exited Basso to launch her eponymous luxury line with Co-Founder and Co-CEO Sterling McDavid. Co-Founded by women, Burnett New York provides boldly feminine luxury fashion with a mission to empower and inspire all women.
