The most recent restoration, in the 21st century, made for a creative interior combining furniture and painting from 18th century. The Chateau de Servigny has a very fascinating history that includes the Gallo Roman period (late BC) and the pre-Carolingian period. Remnants from the original building date back to the first owner of the chateau, The Meurdrac Family of Knights, a very old noble French family. The current owners, the Count and Countess de Pontac, are direct descendants. The chateau also played an important role in European and world history. On June 26, 1944 at 4pm, the signing of the peace treaty between the Germans and Americans took place at the Chateau. At the end of World War II, The Surrender of Cherbourg was signed by General Karl Wilhelm von Schlieben and General Joseph Lawton Collins on the bureau of the Drawing Room. From this historic event, the chateau was given its prestigious nickname of the D’Day Chateau.
Today, this incredibly beautiful example of French architecture serves as a welcoming retreat for those seeking calm and beauty in the Norman countryside.
