Kristian Kachikis, with the instinctive eye of a photographer, navigates stylistic experimentation and technical innovation, balancing purity and control in his work. Kris began 2019 shooting a pilot for John Hamburg. The Unicorn was picked up that fall, becoming a new popular series for CBS. Over the summer, while rolling on the commercial train, Kachikis shot a Facebook Portal campaign with Dayton / Faris and Anomaly featuring all the Muppet greats. 2016 began with Kachikis shooting Why Him?, a FOX / 21 Laps, comedy for writer/director John Hamburg (I Love You Man, Along Came Polly). This comedy, starring Brian Cranston, James Franco, and Zoey Deutch premiered in December on 3000 screens across the nation.
In 2015, Kachikis lensed Christopher Guest's (Best in Show, Waiting for Guffman) latest creation Mascots. This feature stars Parker Posey, Jennifer Coolidge, Zach Woods, Chris O'Dowd, and Fred Willard. Mascots premiered at the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival. Earlier that same year at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival, Kachikis screened Dog Bowl, a short film written and directed by award winning writer Gordy Hoffman (Love Liza, A Coat of Snow). It received a nomination for the short film Grand Jury Prize in Park City and went on to grace the screens of 18 other film festivals around the world. In 2014, Kachikis shot Sequestered, written and directed by Lucas Spaulding, starring John Huertas and Seamus Dever lighting up screens at the TriBeca film festival. Kachikis' film and documentary work includes the in-depth in The Lines Of My Hand for director Geoff Barishas well as The Chocolate Tour for Spike Jonze. Kachikis lensed two other Sundance films: The dramatic competition favorite American Son for director Neil Abramson starring Nick Canon, and a short film, Jackpot, which Kachikis directed. Kachikis’ artistry and craft can be seen in countless commercials for notable clients including Apple, Budweiser, Chevy, Facebook, Nike, Levis, Toyota, L'Oreal and Cover Girl, for directors such as Dayton & Faris, Grant Heslov, Spike Jonze, Christopher Guest, Maggie Carey, Nick Piper, Rocky Morton, and Jeff Priess.
Known and admired for his natural light photography and ability to quickly find attention-grabbing handheld compositions, the passion and playfulness of Kachikis' work is rooted in his lifelong love of photography and his years of work with photographer Herb Ritts. Today, Kristian shoots with many still photographers when they direct, such as Peggy Sirota, Rankin, and Russel James.
