TriStar Pictures has defined itself as a home for literary properties and original filmmaker-driven projects. The label is currently overseeing the development of feature adaptations of titles such as Paulo Coehlo’s The Alchemist, Norton Jester’s The Phantom Tollbooth, Kristin Hannah’s The Nightingale, and Graeme Simsion’s The Rosie Project. TriStar’s critically-acclaimed original film, Baby Driver, was a breakout success at the box office and was nominated for three Academy Awards. This November, TriStar will release its latest project, A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood directed by Marielle Heller and starring Tom Hanks as the iconic television personality, Mister Rogers. TriStar is currently in pre-production on Clea DuVall’s original holiday romantic comedy Happiest Season starring Kristen Stewart and Mackenzie Davis.
TriStar Television, the prestige IP and female-centric driven arm of Sony Pictures Television. The division focuses on projects designed to further cultural conversations regarding gender, diversity, politics and beyond. Most recently, TriStar Television produced On Becoming a God in Central Florida for Showtime, starring, and executive-produced by Kirsten Dunst.
Prior to her appointment to TriStar Productions, Minghella served as President of Production for Columbia Pictures, beginning in October 2010. In that role, Minghella oversaw all aspects of development and production at the legendary motion picture label, including such films as Sausage Party, Concussion, American Hustle, Captain Phillips, Zero Dark Thirty, The Equalizer, 21 Jump Street and 22 Jump Street, The Amazing Spider-Man 1 and 2, and Skyfall, the most successful James Bond film of all time.
Minghella joined the company in 2005 as a director of creative affairs working in the office of the chairman of the Motion Picture Group under Sony Pictures Entertainment Co-Chair Amy Pascal. In that role, she collaborated on several projects, including the production of the highly successful James Bond film Casino Royale. In 2008, Minghella was named the president of production of Sony Pictures Animation and held that role for two years. During her tenure at SPA, Minghella oversaw the production of the live-action/animated hit The Smurfs and SPA’s CG-animated movie Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. She also oversaw the development of Aardman’s Arthur Christmas and The Pirates! Band of Misfits and Sony Pictures Animation’s Hotel Transylvania. Prior to joining Sony, Minghella spent four years at Miramax Films in New York, where she served as a creative executive.
Born in England, Minghella sits on the board of Women In Film, City Year Los Angeles, and The Archer School and is a founding member of the Los Angeles Women’s Collective, a political action committee that empowers women to influence political and legislative progress.
