LEN CARIOU is an internationally recognized, award-winning actor, a member of the American Theatre Hall of Fame, and a recipient of the Order of Manitoba, his home province. He is celebrated on Broadway for his performances in APPLAUSE (Tony nomination, Theatre World Award), A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC (Tony nomination) and especially for his legendary SWEENEY TODD: THE DEMON BARBER OF FLEET STREET (Tony Award, Drama Desk Award). He is known as one of the pre-eminent interpreters of Sondheim. Other Broadway credits include NIGHTWATCH, COLD STORAGE, TEDDY AND ALICE, DANCE A LITTLE CLOSER, THE SPEED OF DARKNESS, THE DINNER PARTY and PROOF. His Off-Broadway appearances include “William O. Douglas” in MOUNTAIN and “Ernest Hemingway” in the tour de force, one man show PAPA, as well as THE PERSIANS, A SORROW BEYOND DREAMS, THE MASTER CLASS, DAY SIX and MEASURE FOR MEASURE. His regional credits comprise a long list of theatres and roles across the continent, including an acclaimed performance as Joe Keller in ALL MY SONS at the Geffen Theatre in Los Angeles and the Gate Theatre in Dublin, and the Stage Manager in OUR TOWN for the 50th Anniversary of the Manitoba Theatre Centre in Winnipeg. Len is the former Artistic Director of the Manitoba Theatre Center and former Associate Director of the Guthrie Theatre. During his years at the Guthrie and at the Stratford Festival in Canada he developed a classical repertoire that include the roles of “King Lear” (twice), “Oedipus,” “Prospero,” “Iago,” “Coriolanus” and “Petruchio,” to name a few. He currently co-stars with Tom Selleck as Henry Reagan on the CBS hit series BLUE BLOODS, now in its sixth season. His many other television appearances include a recurring role as “Judd” Fitzgerald in the hit Showtime series BROTHERHOOD, as well as “Michael Haggerty” on MURDER SHE WROTE, “Sgt. Swift” on SWIFT JUSTICE. He has guest starred on CSI, NUMB3RS, ED, LAW AND ORDER, THE OUTER LIMITS, THE PRACTICE, THE WEST WING, and a myriad of television movies. He won a Genie (Canadian Oscar) for Best Actor in ONE MAN, and an Emmy nomination for his portrayal of Franklin Delano Roosevelt in the HBO film CHURCHILL AT WAR. The New York Times highlighted his current performance as Cardinal Law in the award-winning film SPOTLIGHT. His other feature film credits include THE FOUR SEASONS, FLAGS OF OUR FATHERS, 1408, EXECUTIVE DECISION, LADY IN WHITE, THIRTEEN DAYS, ABOUT SCHMIDT, SECRET WINDOW, THE GREATEST GAME EVER PLAYED THE BOYNTON BEACH CLUB. His voice narration for the documentary film THE JONESTOWN FLOOD helped win the film an Academy Award. Len holds Honorary Doctorates from the University of Winnipeg and the University of Windsor. He is a distinguished Member of the Order of Manitoba, and an inveterate golfer and gin rummy player.
