Includes: Dinka Boy by Carol Beckwith and Angela Fisher. Dimensions: 21"x31". Photograph.
Working as a team for more than 25 years, Angela Fisher and Carol Beckwith are in a race to photograph and document sacred tribal ceremonies across Africa before the ancient ways are lost in the vast cultural melting pot.
These two intrepid explorers are making their way by foot, mule train, camel, dugout canoe, and 4×4 from the tip of Swaziland to the mountains of Morocco. They’re living among indigenous peoples and earning their trust to document the sacred ceremonies that mark their lives. In doing so the duo is preserving cultural traditions and stories that would almost certainly be lost as even remote corners of Africa feel the inexorable pull of modernity.
Fisher and Beckwith’s pioneering work has garnered countless awards, media attention, and the critical praise of artists, politicians, and peacemakers worldwide. According to the Wall Street Journal, “these two Western women have gone further and deeper into tribal African than any photographers have gone before.”
