Forty six years ago, Miriam Michael and Yvette Siegel set out to create a unique educational opportunity for children with learning difficulties. The original enrollment of five students has grown to 179 today, and more than 1,000 students have been touched by our founders' vision.
At the Stephen Gaynor School, our mission remains the same as the day we opened our doors: To create a nurturing environment in which children with learning differences can grow academically, socially and emotionally. Our dedicated, distinguished faculty and staff provide a highly individualized and flexible educational program to meet our students' individual needs. Our approach, based on nearly five decades of experience and research, begins and ends with building self-esteem through academic success.
Funds raised from the 2009 Gaynor Gala will support the expansion of our Arts program, and help us continue to provide each child with the tools and strategies to grow and develop as successful learners. A portion of the proceeds will also support the Stephen Gaynor School Community Learning Center, an after school reading program that provides free tutoring to underserved students from the New York City public schools.
