With a worthy cause behind it, the Bal du Lac stands as the granddaddy of all galas in the Milwaukee social scene. The Bal du Lac features cocktails in the Collection galleries, an extensive and elegant buffet of adult comfort food, lively entertainment, and unexpected surprises – all set within the stunning backdrop of the Milwaukee Art Museum’s Santiago Calatrava designed addition. The Milwaukee Art Museum knows how to raise funds in style and is celebrating 51 years of success with its ever-popular Bal.

Presented by Friends of Art (FOA), the Museum’s largest support group, the Bal du Lac raises significant funds to support the Museum. Proceeds from FOA events ensure the acquisition of important works of art and make it possible for world-class exhibitions to visit, as well as originate, in Milwaukee. In fact, FOA has contributed nearly 300 artworks since its inception that are now proudly showcased in the Museum’s Collection galleries.

20,000 works of art. 300,000+ visitors a year. 120 years of collecting art. From its roots in Milwaukee’s first art gallery in 1888, the Museum has grown today to be an icon for Milwaukee and a resource for the entire state.

Four floors of over forty galleries of art are rotated regularly with works from antiquity to the present in the Museum's far-reaching Collection. Included in the Collection are 15th- to 20th-century European and American paintings, sculpture, prints, drawings, decorative arts, photographs, and folk and self-taught art. Among the best in the nation are the Museum’s holding of American decorative arts, German Expressionism, folk and Haitian art, and American art after 1960. The Museum also holds one of the largest collections of works by Wisconsin native Georgia O’Keeffe.

The Milwaukee Art Museum strives not only to collect and preserve art, but also to present it to the community as a vital source of inspiration and education. Also central to the Museum’s mission is its role as a premier educational resource, with educational programs that are among the largest in the nation, involving classes, tours, and a full calendar of events for all ages.
