City Harvest
An Evening of Practical Magic
April 14, 2010

City Harvest’s efforts to feed hungry individuals and families by rescuing food that would otherwise go to waste has been referred to as “practical magic.” On April 14th, New Yorkers across the city will come together for one special evening in recognition of the generous supporters that embody City Harvest’s combination of the everyday and the extraordinary. The event is supported by Barclays Capital and a donor through FJC, a Foundation of Philanthropic Funds and as a result, 100% of the ticket price will directly support the efforts of City Harvest to feed hungry New Yorkers.

An Evening of Practical Magic will be hosted by Al Roker, Weather and Features Reporter of NBC News' Today Show. We will honor Tom O’Brien, President and General Manager, NBC Local Media New York, NBC4/NBC Universal and James D. Kallman, City Harvest Board Chair, for their ongoing commitment to helping City Harvest feed New York's hungry. The event is City Harvest’s biggest and most important fundraising event of the year and is attended by City Harvest board members, celebrities, corporate leaders and longstanding supporters of the organization. The fundraiser will treat guests to a special night of cocktails and silent auction at 6:30 pm, followed by an elegant dinner and live auction at 7:30 pm. In 2009, the event attracted 500 people and raised $1 million for the organization and its programs.

Now serving New York City for more than 25 years, City Harvest (www.CityHarvest.org) is the world's first food rescue organization, dedicated to feeding the city's hungry men, women, and children. This year, City Harvest will collect more than 26 million pounds of excess food from all segments of the food industry, including restaurants, grocers, corporate cafeterias, manufacturers, and farms. This food is then delivered free of charge to nearly 600 community food programs throughout New York City using a fleet of trucks and bikes as well as volunteers on foot. Each week, City Harvest helps over 260,000 hungry New Yorkers find their next meal.
