This evening we enjoy dinner in the Old Faithful Inn, a turn-of-the-century inn and the tallest log structure in America. B, L, D August 23 Spouting geysers, deep and colorful springs and gurgling mudpots await us today on this insider's look at Yellowstone's geothermal features. Overnight: Old Faithful Inn or Snowlodge. B, L, D August 24 We cross the Continental Divide to reach Yellowstone Lake, where we scope for grizzly bears, bison and moose. We enjoy an option of hikes in the area and take time to identify birds as the American white pelican, osprey and numerous waterfowl. Overnight: Lake Hotel. B, L, D August 25 The Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone is spectacular and also showcases the 305 ft Lower Falls. The sheer beauty of this area will take your breath away. We hike one of the areas many trails and enjoy a lovely picnic near the shore of the Yellowstone River. We then make our way north to the colorful travertine terraces of Mammoth Hot Springs. Here you might photograph resident elk herds, visit the Visitor's Center and the site of Fort Yellowstone or take a walk to the Upper and Lower Terraces. We enjoy dinner in Gardiner, MT this evening followed by a presentation on the reintroduction of the gray wolves. Overnight: Mammoth Hot Springs. B, L, D August 26 We depart before sunrise for Yellowstone's Northern Range and a wildlife- filled day! B, L, D August 27 Today we travel (about an 8-hr. drive) to the northeast corner of Glacier. Our journey takes us through Helena, the Gates of the Mountains and then along the magnificent Rocky Mountain Front to the east side of Glacier National Park to our accommodations for the evening. Overnight: Many Glacier Hotel. B, L, D August 28 This morning, we explore the surrounding glacial lakes on boat and by foot. We enjoy lunch on the shore of a sparkling glacial lake while possibly spotting grizzlies, bighorn sheep and mountain goats. Overnight: Many Glacier, Glacier National Park. B, L, D August 29 At Many Glacier, we board the historic ?Red Buses? to travel over Logan Pass on ?The Going to the Sun Road. Undeniably one of the most scenic travel routes in the U.S., we look for sheer-footed mountain goats, Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep, grizzly bears and other wildlife along the way.
