<host_name>evidencedance2010</host_name>
<short_description>Celebrating its 25th anniversary this season, EVIDENCE, A DANCE COMPANY is a Brooklyn-based nonprofit organization founded by Choreographer and Artistic Director Ronald K. Brown. The Company tours annually, bringing its unique blend of African, Caribbean, modern, and social dance styles to audiences around the world.</short_description>

The mission of Evidence, Inc. is to promote understanding of the human experience in the African Diaspora through dance and storytelling and to provide sensory connections to history and tradition through music, movement, and spoken word, leading deeper into issues of spirituality, community responsibility and liberation.

Founded by Ronald K. Brown in 1985 and based in Brooklyn, New York, EVIDENCE, A DANCE COMPANY focuses on the seamless fusion of traditional African dance with contemporary choreography and spoken word. This work provides a unique view of human struggles, tragedies, and triumphs. Brown uses movement as a way to reinforce the importance of community in African American culture and to acquaint audiences with the beauty of traditional African forms and rhythms. He is an advocate for the growth of an African American dance community and is instrumental in encouraging young dancers to choreograph and to develop careers in dance.

Brown’s choreography is in high demand and he has choreographed works on Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Ailey II, Cleo Parker Robinson Ensemble, Dayton Contemporary Dance Company, Jennifer Muller/The Works, Jeune Ballet d’Afrique Noire, Ko-Thi Dance Company and Philadanco. He choreographed Regina Taylor’s award-winning play, Crowns.

“I hope that when people see the work their spirits are lifted. I am interested in sharing perspectives through modern dance, theater and kinetic storytelling. I want my work to be evidence of these perspectives,” says Brown.

Evidence now tours to some 30 communities in the United States annually. It has also traveled overseas to Cuba, Brazil, England, France, Greece, Hungary, Mexico and Senegal to perform, teach master classes and conduct lecture/demonstrations for young people. Evidence brings arts education and cultural/historical connections to local communities that have historically lacked these experiences. Annually the company reaches an audience of more than 30,000.

Forty six years ago, Miriam Michael and Yvette Siegel set out to create a unique educational opportunity for children with learning difficulties. The original enrollment of five students has grown to 179 today, and more than 1,000 students have been touched by our founders' vision.

At the Stephen Gaynor School, our mission remains the same as the day we opened our doors: To create a nurturing environment in which children with learning differences can grow academically, socially and emotionally. Our dedicated, distinguished faculty and staff provide a highly individualized and flexible educational program to meet our students' individual needs. Our approach, based on nearly five decades of experience and research, begins and ends with building self-esteem through academic success.

Funds raised from the 2009 Gaynor Gala will support the expansion of our Arts program, and help us continue to provide each child with the tools and strategies to grow and develop as successful learners. A portion of the proceeds will also support the Stephen Gaynor School Community Learning Center, an after school reading program that provides free tutoring to underserved students from the New York City public schools.

Emphasis is on the whole child: physical, emotional, intellectual and linguistic. Young children learn by doing, by actively working with things in their environment, using all their senses. Development of language is crucial at preschool age, both as a vehicle for self-expression and communication, and as the foundation for later work in the language arts.

Bridge to the Future Foundation

OUR MISSION
The mission of the Bridge to the Future Foundation is to level the playing field so that financial burdens do not prevent committed and focused youth from achieving their educational dreams.

OUR VISION
We envision a world in which one’s financial circumstances are irrelevant in determining his or her opportunity for success.

OUR VALUES
We will be known, respected, and admired for our honesty, integrity, attitude, and work ethic. We will strive to be viewed by our clients and business partners as having made a direct and positive contribution to the families and communities we serve. Our values are reflected in the following philosophy:
· Education is the road to opportunity.
· Self-esteem is earned, not inherited.
· None of us can achieve success without the help of others.
· There is no price tag for your personal integrity.
· The winners in sports and in life are those who combine talent, focus, discipline, and passion.

About Let Them Play:
Let Them Play is a program of the Bridge to the Future Foundation founded in 2007 by Steve Stein. Steve is the owner of Hollywood's top celebrity gift bag company, Connected. Steve's real passion, however, is coaching his son's little league team. Steve's involvement with the league goes beyond coaching. In the spring of 2006, he decided to donate one of his left over gift bags to raise money for the league. The one gift bag he donated raised $1,800 and allowed 33 kids to play in the league that otherwise wouldn't have been able to afford it. After seeing the difference he made in those 33 kids lives by donating one gift bag, Steve quickly started thinking of ways he could incorporate his celebrity connections and gift bag business into helping other kids. His idea turned into Let Them Play.

    <host_name>HiArt</host_name>
    <short_description></short_description>

Founded in 2006, The Time In Children's Arts Initiative, is dedicated to overcoming the academic, social and emotional iniquities of at-risk children through a far-reaching, interdisciplinary, arts-inspired curriculum which focuses on opera and 20th + 21st century art through hands-on studio work and gallery/museum visits.

As we take children out of underserved classrooms every week of the school year throughout their elementary education, Time In effectively brings with it a culture of thought, analysis, experience and action, enabling children to become not only effective and knowledgeable creators, but engaged, responsible and thoughtful participants in a larger democracy.

In a disturbing and disrupted community, Time In creates what is often the unique, safe environment for expression, questioning and enrichment in these children's lives. Time In's consistent programming promises underserved children the necessary tools to begin bridging the debilitating social, educational and cultural gaps which overwhelm their daily lives, while fusing artistic, intellectual, and emotional learning as an integral part of each child's regular school day.

Time In's pedagogical methodology is founded on structured, broad ranging parameters, anchored in sophisticated, real-world information as a means to inspire and empower children in their efforts to decipher and effect the world in which they live. At Time In children use the arts to develop the skill of experimentation: they integrate problem-solving with the pleasure of creation, and, in a broad spectrum of interdisciplinary events and activities, there is a natural enhancement to these children's lives and educations.

Regardless of their backgrounds, children are children: the world of imagination, creativity and fantasy is their most fertile ground. As educators and artists we must use this knowledge to create multi-disciplinary curricula for children of all races and socio-economic backgrounds. Time In acknowledges children's phenomenal gifts and innate abilities and, in this age of media saturation, is dedicated to developing innovative and substantive learning environments that stimulate, rather than stifle our children. Time In will continue to foster not only wonderfully conceptual thinkers, but perceptive and aesthetically sensitive individuals, each of whom will be poised to nourish our society in the days to come.

Visit Time In on Facebook: <a href="http://www.facebook.com/pages/Time-In/138463186315?ref=ts"target=_blank">www.facebook.com/Time-In
